I recently got a cactus and now it's winter and it's starting to shrink! What am I doing wrong?

Cactus are native to the desert, a hot and dry condition. So, it really does not like cold conditions like winter. Your cactus needs to be kept indoors, ideally where there is enough sunlight and heat source. Water only when the soil is thoroughly dry.
