What would have happened to the Serbs if they didn't start the war?

If there was no war than I'm uming referendums would have took place in Slovenia and Croatia, rather than declaration of independence. If there was no war, they would look the same. I'm not sure what would have happened to the Serbs, maybe some discrimination, or maybe (hopefully) people integrated and there was no segregation like their is in Bosnia now. The Serbs in Croatia would be doing whatever they were doing prior to 1991. And Serbs in Bosnia the same. They probably wouldn't have been persecuted. Most of the discrimination that goes on now is the result of people blaming Serbs for destruction of infrastructure in Bosnia and death of thousands of people. If there was no war, there would be no major reason to hate the entire group.
